Title: Huge Vera Walther vase - show and tell
Post by: flying free on July 23, 2012, 09:03:14 PM
This is my third piece and therefore I have a collection :)
It's signed on the base and also has the label.  This work looks ethereal and delicate but it's sturdy and huge at 32cm high by 12-13cm diam at the base.
All engraved and with the most beautiful iridescence on the foot.

Lovely. Someone squashed it though

:P - Whenever I look at it, it reminds me of both a snake charmer and a cobra bizarrely.

It looks as though the snake charmer swallowed the cobra  ;D

The innocent-looking little couple are really into dark magic...... and have been making a chimera.

bumping this for Ivo and Dirk hopefully (and anyone else interested)

I didn't do a picture of the base of this and today when I was clearing around I picked it up and lo and behold....it looks like it was made from a bottle - wondering if you know from whence the bottle might have come...and in effect is this recycled glass then?

I double checked an old link and these bottles are on there.  They are recycled and then 'painted with lustre' and decorated.  Used bottles which he produced for 10years.

Sorry, been away...  ;D
Indeed this range was made from old (beer) bottles and I think they date from the 80īs;
some examples are signed with date.
Funny enough - the name of the range was īcobraī.   8)

These are definitely the melted-est bottles I've seen recycled; there must be some serious skill to these Cobras.  8)

I love that Ivo.  How is the decoration done?  Is it on the exterior and engraved?
It's very beautiful.

Tiny little air bubbles inside the glass outlining butterflies and floral motif - and I haven't got a clue how he got them in there.

He is one of the most interesting makers I've come across - his work can only be described as 'exquisite'.  I did wonder if it might be internal decoration as it seems he has a love of 'encasing' his decoration so it cannot be damaged (well unless dropped or bashed of course).

Some sort of miniature ariel technique, perhaps using a dremmel or stippling tool... ?

Managed to get the Macro out - so here are some detail shots of this rather strange decoration technique for further puzzlement and contemplation.

Perhaps the bubbles are *just* a side effect of that colour which has been used for the outlines.
I must admit they look quite regular for an uncontrolled process though...  ???

They do look like Benny Motzfelt-style bubbles with the colour inclusion (not Nazeing-style ones).

my face box for comparison, the eye bubble is done in a similar way I think?
perhaps we need to write to Heiner and ask?

I recently acquired a new huge cobra vase in a different decor - this has gold and silver leaf on it and is again exquisitely made.  It actually looks like silk material instead of glass.
It's hand signed on the base 'Vera Walther' and 'HD' initials in script whereas my pink one is signed with his full name and 85 date.
