Title: Help with identification of vase - Scandinavian?
Post by: zidori on September 17, 2005, 07:25:00 AM
Would this be Scandinavian? - Holmegaard?
I have looked up various reference sources on the internet but have not come across this shape.
It is just over 12 inches tall.

I do not believe this is Homegaard but thats just my opinion.
Read the recent topics on Holmegaard for why.

I have a piece in this translucent pale blue with clear blue base and a larger piece in a similar colorwy which is I'm sure is Italian. There is s distinct difference in color, quality and style between them so I think it COULD be Swedish but I don't know for sure.

The only thing that bugs me is that the Italians were much more likley to have made very large pieces in this period than the Swedes.  (I also have a small collection of very large Italian pieces ) So the jury is out.

I do have some Holmegaard and I feel 99% certain that this is not Holmegaard.
What I went on to debate was whether is it Swedish or Italian.
Holmegaard is a Danish company.

Thank you Peter for the response. I had read the earlier thread and couldn't make up my mind. It is difficult to decide these things with only one piece in front of you. Once I have personally come across pieces of Holmegaard then I might become able to rule Holmegaard out or in myself without having to trouble anyone else.
From the rest of your initial response, I had taken on board that it was most likely Italian but am working my way through internet sites on Swedish Glass as well and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Good !

Here is a pic of mine (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/Glassmessages/Translucentpalebluecased9.jpg)  (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/Glassmessages/unknown9.jpg)
The inner white layer is very thin and translucent. It even looks pale blue itself at some angles.

and a pic of a Holmegaard bottle vase in similar color (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/Glassmessages/PaletHolmegaardBottlevasesmall.jpg)  (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b306/Glassmessages/PaletHolmegaardoverfangsglasMichael.jpg)
The white layer is brilliant and very opaque. Non of the blue layer shows clear in the base.
