Title: Aventurine....what is the Most seen...
Post by: antiquerose123 on March 14, 2010, 10:13:19 AM
Hi just thought I would ask this question:  What is the most aventurine ever seen in a piece of glass?  For myself here, this piece has the most in all the pieces I have here.  They seemed generous in this piece?
( post referral: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,18048.0.html )

Just a question.  Not sure if this should be in the Cafe? Here? or Glass Section? or a link to both here and Glass.  Just curious to see members pieces, or if they (also) have some pics of pieces with lots of Aventurine?

I just LO-O-O-O-OVE Aventurine.....Can we start a topic with just pics of huge amounts of Aventurine, or the designs done with it?  And facts about this?  A whole topic just for Aventurine, and info...Thanks

That must be in my favourite piece: a panel cut inkwell in solid aventurine in the Mevlana Museum in Istanbul. Made in Venice (of course), the Turks call it Yildiz Tasi, star stone.

And then there are tiny vessels and glasses blown in solid aventurine by Salviati around 1900. As Aventurine will burn when overheated, blown aventurine is very hard to make. The substance cools in the pot, so the presentation is a solid. By hammering it into shards, these can be rolled into other glass types, provided the working temperature in not too high. It is also turned into thin rods - mainly for making accents and decorations items.

My favourite piece is this 15"/ 28 cms "cadinal's hat" bowl, with shards rolled into a clear base and blown out very thinly so as to maintain transparency. I still have not found out who made it - there is a scripted sig on the onderside that says "Italy" - and it has been suggested it is early Venini. It might well be...

No idea what they mean with "gold aventurine infused" - when the (famous) tiger is obviously decorated in gold leaf or gold dust, not aventurine.

Another Salviati beauty -- an aventurine bowl & underplate from the late 1900s.

I've looked at all of the pictures so far. They are all gorgeous, but I am most taken with Ivo's star stone. It is one beautiful work of art.

Hope it's ok to add this here and to ask for ideas?
I think what I have bought is an octagonal bowl all hand formed (It looks not quite perfect to be mould blown but I'm probably wrong) made of aventurine rolled in a clear base, with an applied foot (looks like a long sausage of glass pulled round in a ring for the foot) and with applied teardrops on each of the eight angles, snapped off pontil mark.  I have a dish/plate coming but I'm not entirely sure it goes with this bowl, I'll have to post it when it arrives.  I have not a clue whether what I've bought is old or new (and have no books that even cover anything like this), but so far what I've come up with is a possible Salviati or CVM late 1800's/early 1900's. Am I in the right area?  or completely off beam please?  :) thanks for any help.
