Title: Bohemian mark SB dove on Agate Glass
Post by: Frank on June 08, 2011, 09:09:16 PM
Puzzling that such a distinctive mark has not been mentioned anywhere... I am presuming it is the initials SB cleverly integrated into a bird design. It is found on a set of miniature agate glass bowls in a box marked souvenir of Bohemia and dates to 1930s.

Hi Frank,
Could it be that the bowls copy an old design, but are of perfectly new production?  The SB mark (which I'd say stands for Souvenir of Bohemia) looks very modern.   :-\   I do hope someone can help.

I just wanted to apologize for being dim enough to state the obvious... Sorry.  :pb:

Nice try Christine but I neglected to mention that it was my translation of "Achate de Bohême"  :fr: and definitely a 1930s style of packaging, 50s latest, but I believe this type of glass was only made in the 30s...

:thud: Should have been nice try Anik. Anyway there are the pics, lots more will be online soon. Lovely little pieces, I presume as cocktail ashtrays.

Or maybe just nibble dishes. Some of these sorts of sets come with little forks.

Some of my thoughts as to why box was printed in French:

1. It was a handout/souvenir at the 1925 Paris exposition. A 1920s date would fit too.

2. Trade sample sent out to French wholesalers by the manufacturer of agate glass.

And it just occurred to me perhaps it is and 'R' not a 'B' pointing to 'S Reich' who are very high up the list of probable makers...

Unfortunately, I can't help with provenance, but the bowls are lovely.
