Title: Uranium trinket pot unknown maker??? - ID = Walther Greta
Post by: BRADBURY7308 on May 02, 2010, 09:21:51 PM
Purchased this trinket pot today from the local car-boot it measures 5" tall and glows very well under a uv light and has a couple of art-deco attributes? would anybody have any ideas where it might have been made? Ive looked through pamela's glass pavillion without any joy which is saying something.
thanks for looking dan

Not one I've seen either Dan... it has similarities to a couple of other patterns but I've not found a match in any of my reference stuff yet.

Hi Dan, this pot is shown in the 1934 Walther & Sohne catalogue, page 48, pattern = "Greta".

There seems to be two variants of Greta. I have a bowl that looks like this lamp without the scales but with extra ribs http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/misc/05206.html

Dan, it's a nice one and seems to be quite rare - never saw one here   ;D
http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/kerzenhalter/00735.html - here's the matching candlestick holder

Christine is right, there are different designs called 'GRETA', although there are certain similarities, see GRETA vase here also:

I always felt these items were designed to match several other ranges, like HUBERTUS f.e. too

Additionally I got the information that sometimes the catalogue printers mixed up patterns and names also... ::)

Hi folks thats interesting i thought it looked a good quality pot but didnt think it could be a walther type one as it wasnt on the glass-pavillion i just thought everything was on there, When i bought the pot i bought a bowl off the same stall its 10" wide and 3.5" deep and has 9 petals just wondering if it might be a relation? here are the pictures.

Ooohhhh that's interesting to know... I thought it looked similar to Hubertus and Greta but the scales had me foxed.  Dan may I use your photos for the GTS website please? (Fully credited of course!)

Your bowl is tricky, Daniel  :-\
Its finish reminds me of this one
http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/schalen/04250.html - but, please be careful: I'm not 100 per cent sure mine is Hortensja, Poland   :pb:

Anne and Christine, the GRETA lamp always made me somewhat nervous - it's really more HUBERTUS JMHO, but what else should we do than to name them as per catalogue...  ^-^  :-X

Hi Dan, I think your bowl might be Czech, see here: http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/mc/unknown/septmornblue1.jpg (http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/mc/unknown/septmornblue1.jpg)

No idea of the maker though sorry. "September Morn" is the name given to the lady statuette that sometimes comes with the bowl.  Also the base of the bowl is shaped so that it can be sat on a pedestal base, such as this one: http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/mc/unknown/ambercherubs.jpg (http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/mc/unknown/ambercherubs.jpg)

I've had that cherub stand before, with "Czechoslovakia" on the base.  Hope this helps.

Aren't the cherubs Mueller? If so, perhaps the bowl is Mueller

Thanks very much wayne realy does have the brain! It amases me how these pieces turn up in weidest places before i got into glass i wouldnt give bowls etc a second glance but not anymore im hooked. The base and bowl do match well but just resting on top like that no peg seems a little unsafe especially if there was a nice statue in the bowl? I will  ebay the trinket pot i dont suppose im going to turn up the other parts of the set am i. Thankyou everyone.
