What do YOU make of this weight (http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/antiquitaeten-und-kunst/antikes-aus-glas/sonstiges/schoenes-paper-weight-briefbeschwerer-mille-fiori-glas/v/an659439672/) ?
I tend towards Chinese - but the orange (outer region) cane reminds me of Vasart / Ysart Brothers. Has anyone seen such a cane in a Chinese weight?

I have one of these, bought pretty much based on that cane, alas when I got it I realized it's a Chinese weight,
the glass develops that foul smelling surface coating after a while like some modern Chinese weights do and the setup viewed from the side is
fairly typical.

Is that a typical chinese base finish now ? Dont think so ,but I dont come in contact with any new chinese weights. Roger.

It is interesting that there are canes in that weight that have a star or daisy pattern. I have not noticed those before in Chinese weights. And yes, from a distance, the yellow-white-blue canes have a similarity to Scottish-style canes.
It would be difficult to say that there are no Ysart Brothers or Vasart Ltd canes that use yellow and dark blue in that type of pattern. But on a quick review of my own (not so many) weights from those periods none have a similar mix of yellow and dark blue.
And, more interestingly, I can only find one cane amongst my YB / Vasart Ltd weights that has a six-point star / cog / daisy! I had not really thought about that before. I wonder how common or rare that is.
On a general point, it seems to me that (most) concentric millefiori weights out of China are based on mid-20th century Murano concentric designs. In fact, some of those Murano weights have been mistaken for Scottish on more than one occasion.

Modern Chinese pws come in all flavors, and I've seen a lot of them with well polished bases.
By modern I mean "just of the boat".
My version of this one looks perfect viewed from above and like a rollercoaster viewed from the side.
