Title: A little poser
Post by: chuggy on September 25, 2006, 06:45:02 PM
My latest purchase turned up today and I thought it would be an interesting piece to see if anyone can ID. It is fully signed and nearly 50 years old stands 2.5" high and 9" across, so who can guess it correctly?

hmmmmmmm must be Murano, as it is obviously a piece of spaghetti and a blob of tomato sauce left over from your lunch out there.

Seriously, though, no idea, but I reckon that little thingy on the left hand side must be a give away to those in the know about these things.

The label on the left would point to Nationality, but a red herring for the company concerned.

If it was a paperweight, with those colours, somebody would say,"Chinese"

Oh no it's not, and no Italian connection at all, pure Scandi this one.

gosh - that's a surprise (to me anyway).  He's the fella that designed those metal covered glass items isn't he? It's very nice anyway Paul :-)

Been watching this thread.  8)   I'd never have guessed it was Wiktor Berndt, it's so different from my minds eye view of his work!  Maybe he had spaghetti for lunch that day.

Is this paperweight one of a 'set' Paul, or a one-off style?

Not  a paperweight Max, a bowl 9" across and 2.5" high. It's an early piece of his work and comes before he did his tribal pieces with the characterised figures and animals on them. Here's a piccy of one of his later bits from that range, they look a bit like the Cadburys Smash folks.

Oops! I didn't get the 9" across.  I blame your photograph!

I love the vase (it is a vase isn't it?  :P  ) you show - I'd really like a piece of his work - maybe one day...  <wistful look>

Here's another one for you Max, slightly more interesting shape and the only one I've come across with this stylised bull on it.
