Title: Mysterious, scratched signature on Perthshire Paperweight 1995
Post by: incazzatonero on September 18, 2012, 08:21:28 PM
Since years I have these Perthshire paperweight in my collection date cane from the 1995th
Yesterday I first saw a very small engraving / signature at the bottom, but it is indecipherable.
Can someone help me?

I am sure: it is NOT a number!
Also sure: it is a name!

It's 342 which would be the issue number of this weight in a limited production rum.

Is the date cane definately 1995 as it's hard to read in the picture? As on checking the Mahoney & McClanahan Perthshire book this pattern does not seem to be from 1995.

Depending on the size this will be a PP19 (large) or more likely a PP19A (small), both in production in 1995, and limited editions (actual numbers unknown). So I would assume the writing in question is the edition number.

Yes of course, Wuff is right: PP19A small scrambled millefiori weight with black ground, signed with a dated "P" cane in the base.
Dia: 57 mm.
Somebody says: "The queen is getting fat".
The second says: "The Queen becomes a baby".
The third says:" The Queen becomes a boy".
The next one says: "The Queen becomes a girl".
All people are saying: "The Queen is pregnant".
But the trues is: "The Queen is fat".
Please believe me: the scratched signatures are NOT numbers!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with 342 as well; there are no letters.

Oh sorry,
sorry,
sorry!
I could not read 342 before...... ??? ??? ???
.........because I would write the numbers in an totally other way (more like printed letters).
But now I can see and read  :D :D :D
The enigma that was none, is now solved.

You would not believe the trouble I had yesterday, trying to make out a number on a Ltd. Ed. lino cut print!
I was waving my fingers around, pretending I was holding a pencil and tracing the shape in the air, to see if I could work out what it was. It took about 10 minutes to decide it is possibly a 4. :-[

If you have ever tried to put a small signature on the bottom of a paperweight using a vibrating scribing pen, I can assure you it is difficult, and the end result is not always what you intended! (Said with feeling after too many failures...).
