Title: Crystal Arrowhead Rainbow Sparkle Paperweight- Any ideas?
Post by: I love all Glass on January 16, 2012, 06:43:01 PM
Hello to everyone,

I have this arrowhead shaped paperweight, not something Ive seen before, like a three sided pyramid with polished base, is a lovely white crystal with rainbow like glitter effect in lower part and a few bubbles, the outer surface has a mottle, ripple finish. Also is signed, but I cant make it out, other than two words in a swirly flourish(un photographical), and what could be a date or a code "6 - 7 - 96". Measures about 12cm tall and 6cm at widest point, weight of0.380kg.

Any ideas as to who made this pretty paperweight? thanks for suggestions.    Simon

Hi Simon,

Please try dusting the signature with talcum powder then gently blow off the excess. This should leave a solid white impression of the signature, which should photograph quite well.

Also try using a dark background rather than the pale one above as it should highlight the mostly clear item much better.

The shape is not familiar, but the internal sparkle looks similar to a Glass Eye Studio (USA) weight that I have - they incorporate volcanic ash from the Mt St Helens Volcano into them.

Their website may be worth a look.

Simon you can also get signatures by photgraphing the base from a very shallow angle so that the sky reflects off the flat base and the writing appears dark.  This is useful when the glass pattern behind the signature is "messy" and tends to distract the eye.  Here is an example of a Kosta Boda vase showing how much more clearly this shows up the signature.

That is what I was thinking......could the last line of letters be G E S   '96....with the *E* not showing up much??  The first letter there looks like a *G* then something...then an *S* and 96 (for a date).

Just MO.....as a guess

  @ ahremck -- Nice example there to show the difference the angle makes on a signed Piece.  Super Example!!!

Sherd*** Clark, then the date 6 9 96

Does that give anyone any ideas?
