Title: Mills, Walker & Co — Antiques Roadshow 11 Nov. 2012
Post by: Bernard C on November 12, 2012, 08:51:37 AM
Last night, just back from the National, and enjoying a cuppa and piece of cake in the dining room, I happened to look at the registration lists in Thompson, and noticed the three registrations of 23 Dec. 1884 for a range of glass decorated with acorns and oak leaves by Mills, Walker & Co (the Mills was the other half of the Stuart & Mills partnership that broke up in 1882).

After I finished my cuppa, I walked through to the front room to see Andy McConnell holding a solifleur posy decorated with acorns and oak leaves.   I didn't get to the volume control quickly enough.   What did he say about it?   Did he link it to the Mills, Walker & Co range?

Later I found that great-glass references a piece in Manley with an ambiguous mark thus "Manley, fig. 127, vase marked 'M.W. & Co., Vitrified'".   He describes it as enamelled opaline.  What does that one look like?

Mel — Thanks.    ...   one slight difficulty.   ...   ...   ...   I don't have a functioning sound system on my PC.

At least now everyone else can watch it!

I believe it was a signed Moser piece.

;D   I hadn't opened my mind enough!   When I said ambiguous I was thinking Molineaux Webb, not European!!!

... so, thanks, but have I got this the right way round?

Andy McConnell's solifleur posy decorated with acorns and oak leaves was the signed Moser piece.

well, I only saw that titbit of the show as OH called me in to quiz me before Andy said what it was  ;D, and Andy was holding a tranparent glass small vase with enamelled oak leaves on it and applied acorns and on the bottom in gilt it was signed Moser.  He said it was Moser.
If that is the vase you are talking about then yes.  But I cannot confirm that he didn't find another piece on the show that also had acorns and oak leaves on it as I didn't watch the rest.
