Title: Carnival Query Westmoreland or Fenton?
Post by: chuggy on June 18, 2006, 11:02:14 AM
Bought this at a car boot this morning and I know it's Coin Dot pattern, but I see that both Fenton and Westmoreland made bowls in green in this pattern(I've been at my books). Having gotten this far I can't pin it down beyond this, hopefully Glen or someone else can put me right.

Hi Paul -

I believe it is Fenton.  The dots are stippled in the Fenton pieces and they are not in the Westmoreland pieces.

Yes, I believe it is a Fenton piece - I agree with Connie on this.

It's worth noting that Fenton actually did make a (rarely found) smooth dot pattern as well. It's distinguishable as Fenton by the tight crimp edge. You can see an example of it on the second page of this article (click the next page link at the bottom to see the photos).

while on the subject.............

am I therefore correct that this bowl is Fenton Coin Dot? (The dots are stippled  dimensions are 8 1/2" diameter x 3" height)

Yes, Cheri yours is Fenton also and gorgeous.  It has the distinctive tight crimp edge Glen discusses in the article that she wrote that she linked to up above.

thanks Connie :)
I was pretty sure it was Fenton, especially after reading Glen's article....but then this page on ddoty.com confused me some

In my opinion, the fine crimped edge (candy ribbon treatment) clearly marks it out as a Fenton piece.
