Title: Early French...?
Post by: tropdevin on May 07, 2008, 09:11:58 PM
You might think that this (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?type=2&campid=5335820906&toolid=10001&customid=&ext=160238215289&item=160238215289) is Murano, but I couldn't possibly comment (with apologies to Michael Dobbs).

That is Fratelli Toso. That is one of the nicest 'daisy cane' ones I've seen. If I were not short on change I would love to add that to my FT collection.

Hi,
I had a look at my two Toso weights (as identified here) and they match in terms of the canes....
so if mine are Toso then so is that weight....or I have two French weights on my hands!!!
Kind regards,
KarelM
PS: I dont like this part 2 much: ÇThe paperweight is not marked with the manufacturer’s backstamp, which is common, but it is guaranteed to be genuine, early and original."....what is early?

Guaranteed to be a genuine paperweight. What's wrong with that?  ;)

I have dropped them a note and referred them here to see the comments. Orville4 is a pretty good seller, who often have weights for sale, and they usually attribute them correctly. I bought from them years ago.

Hi Martin

I have bought from orville4 on several occasions, and they are straight and honest.  But they are wayward in their attributions from time to time - I have seen Strathearns appear as Vasart, and even Ysart?, and little Thuringian weights offered as antique French.  Honest errors, I have no doubt, but I have never seen any changes to the adverts when I have informed them of the errors.  Maybe you will have more joy.

Orville, aka Stewart and Kerry, are decent sellers. Their only fault is they list a crazy amount of things and sometimes dont get descriptions right. Thats only because they simply cant take time to ID every single thing they sell perfectly, otherwise they list 4 things a day!   The also deal in the Poole Pottery world quite often and Ive dealt with and sold to them quite a few times!
