This is 5 and a third inches high and has a diameter of 2 and three quarters. I have some other WF but am not sure about this. Cheers :D

I'd say yes. :D The flint bark vases are quite scarce too. I expect Emmi will be along to fill in the details that I can't supply.
-
oooooh super! You know I never found WF in England, only now that I'm abroad and the choice over here is amaaaaazing! Due to being in the middle of the mainland I suppose. :D
-
Looks like one to me too! You lucky thing.
-
I was mainly worried about the base as it's not completely flat all over but after looking on whitefriars.com at another base - it's the same Hooray!!!! I bought it for 5chf (2.25gbp). I by-passed it last week as I wasn't sure  I've learnt my lesson now :D
Again, thank you all for your help.
-
Gosh, that was a good price!!!
you were lucky it was still there.....

Hiya Flick, it does look a lot like a flint W/F bark vase but there's something about the rim that doesn't look quite right to me - does it have a line around or is it an effect of the photograph. I ask because all of the W/F bark vases I've had have (quite a few in the past but no flint ones admittedly) don't have that 'line' around the rim. There's a kingfisher one in my shop at the moment - I've just tried to compare them. I'm probably wrong (I hope I am anyway) but none of mine have looked like yours appears to at the rim. <<<doom and gloom merchant - soz!
Can you take a photo from slightly above to get the rim in a different angle?
-
Isn't the line the other side of the rim reflected?

Isn't the line the other side of the rim reflected?
Ah, now you've mentioned it you could well be right. Think p'raps I need stronger glasses 8)
-
In the cold light of day it does have a rim at the top - Noooooo! I now think it's a copy
-
not necessarily Flick - but to be absolutely certain why don't you post a picture together with it's dimensions on the IsIt? section of the Whitefriars website?
-
Thanks Pip - it's there now :)

I wouldn't like to commit one way or the other...there is something "not quite right" about it, and the height is a LOT shorter than the basic 6" bark. Without having a "feel" I have to say I do not know.
I have been without internet or a land line for nearly a week now due to almighty cock up with BT. And do not expect to have it again for another 10 days. I am intermitently using someone else's PC, so hence the non appearance earlier on this topic. My old e-mail addresses of course are not working, but I have registered a yahoo one on this forum, should anyone need to be in touch and I can send and receive when have access to this PC....it is driving me nuts, feel like I'm on a raft in a storm in a gale...it is THAT bad without my usual communication system. Hey Ho, will be glad to get back to normal. Emmi

I too am unsure of this vase. The rim suggests that it may have been machine made, likewise the texture appears different from my examples. The rim reminds me of the harlequin tumbler sets which turn up every so often & have been discussed before:

Hmm...well that puts the cat amongst the pigeons! I still feel that it's WF, I did realise this vase was shorter, but just allowed for variation...
The trouble is, I can't think of what else it could be if not WF. I've never seen a Jones & Co bark vase that isn't square, and the overall quality of Flicks' vase looks excellent.
Maybe a pic of the base would throw some more light?
PS: Emmi, hope you get your phone line sorted soon...I know how rotten it is when you're marooned with no computer! :x

I'll put a messages to Vidfletch on the wf.com site. I'll have my hat handy nearby in case I have to eat it.
-
Having had another look none of my WF bark vases has that plain band at the top. The bark goes all the way through.
-
Wow! I didn't know that this would cause such a furore. Perhaps we need a database of WF "copies" and/or look-a-likes - I would like to vote my vase as being one of the first on there
Anyway - here's the base:

I've uncrossed my fingers now - ready for the worst :D

Well, it has been debated before, I think. Might be worth having a look for other topics on this board where 'bark-alike' vases have been discussed. Not Ingridglas is it?
Here's a few I found...

Uh oh. That base doesn't bode well at all. I've only got a couple of bark vases, but both mine have ground and polished pontil marks.

Edit: Thanks for going to the trouble to search those links out David. The Ingrid glas link isn't working for me, but I don't think this is Ingrid glass anyway, although it'd be my closest contender. Almost certain this isn't Ravenhead... or the 'Royale Castle' type (which I think Vidfletch identified as actually Ravenhead recently), and the only Jones & Co ones I've seen are square So...if not WF, then I'm stumped. :(
-
Oh dear that base doesn't look right does it! the only un-pontiled WF I have seen have had a level base with a sort of spirally soft textured finish - how would you describe that in techy speak? But I've not seen any with that indented ring.
-
I know what you mean Lynne! Thanks to David for all the hard work!
This is the nearest I can find to my own:

But the jury's out on this one too :?
-
Maybe it is my eyes or my monitor, but the picture of the base looks like it is a moulded base with a superimposed LG moulded in the center. It doesn't look like a pontil mark to me at all :?
-
You're right, the photo is strange. The base of the vase has a very slightly raised dimple in the centre surrounded by which it is fairly rough but there is no "mark" at all. :?
-
I'm going to stick my neck out and say it is no WF. The base is wrong, the tops wrong and the close up of the pattern in the base photo looks wrong.
-
Hi,
This is definitely not "Moravia" pattern from Sklo Union.
Process of elimination is perhaps the only way forward with these bark effect items.

Marcus

Dear friends - have posted reply to the Bark query on 'isit' on the Whitefriars.com site. I don't think the bark is out of Whitefriars but can't say where it is from. Vidfletch and I are still searching for clues::))) - still jolly well hunting up others of these here bark copies.

So,
Not Davidson, not Sklo Union, not Ravenhead, Royal Cast(i)le, unlikely to be Jones & Co, (merely importers)
anyone have any way forward with this, given that so many have positive "no" responses?
