Title: Walther Elvira ? Vase - Idenified as Riihimaki Heavy Cut
Post by: Connie on February 17, 2006, 09:37:48 PM
I bought this on my trip this week.  I have to have some reward for all my traveling

After stuydying Pamela's wonderful site, I have tentatively identified this as Walther Elvira.

 Vase  (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-4485)

 Pattern  (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-4484)

Am I correct in my identification?

From this item

http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/schalen/00812.gif

I found it under Walther/Bowls and Plates

But I think there might be another picture.  I will keep looking. (I knew I should have written down the specifics the first time I found it) l

Edited to add:

The link above is of the only piece pictured.  If you look under Schalen und Teller, then scroll down to Walther, it is almost at the bottom above the cloud glass pieces.

Connie, I do not think yours is Elvira - please compare again also counting the 'diamonds' and compare the star and compare the 'I don't know how you call them' in between.
but I am hunting after yours and its origin nevertheless of course - I am always happy to see more designs!

Connie - you have a Riihimaki piece there. I have seen it as part of a two piece fruit stand. The "vase" is shown upturned with a matching bowl on top in Riihimaki's 1939 catalog. The pattern of the bowl is known as "Heavy Cut" (but there is also another Carnival pattern known by that name too....which makes for some confusion!)

I wondered if it might be a stand or base and almost posted it flipped over also

Bumping this up for Pamela.

Pamela are you interested in this piece for your museum?  I will send it to you if you pay shipping.

I just donated the bulk of my inventory to charity and I thought you might like this piece for your museum.

Connie, hope you know how very much it is appreciated - thank you! If I do now look at these pictures (one year ago - incredible) I feel something else and similar came in during the last weeks, so that I may compare several items! Big hug, Pamela  :-*
