Hi Joe.

It looks like a Silesian or German weight from the early 1900s. I guess it is 2 1/4 inch diameter, or thereabouts?

Hi Joe

Silesia is the area of Europe in which it might have been made - it is now in Poland, near the border with the Czech Republic, but much of it was part of the German empire until 1945. I think there were quite a lot of glass factories scattered across it.  I am not saying your weight is definitely from Silesia: it might be from Thuringia, which is part of Germany, and includes famous glass making towns such as Jena and Lauscha (where they definitely made paperweights, and which is the home of glass Christmas decorations!).
