Any ideas of maker, pattern, etc.

It doesn't really look very old.

They look a lot like two black glass compotes I enquired about a few weeks ago link (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,4380.msg35060.html#msg35060) - there were varying opinions, if you think your item is new see Ivo's attribution.
