Title: Any ideas on a maker for this victorian peloton vase?
Post by: pwayne on February 23, 2008, 05:34:56 PM
Hi Folks,
i picked this vase up as an extra in a lot at a local auction, i was bidding on a Kralik bacillus iridescent art nouveau bowl which is my type of thing and this vase was included in the lot. It looks Victorian and has a broken of pontil. Its cased, has a hand worked frilly rim and looks mould blown. Its not my type of thing so i was going to list it on Ebay and was hoping someone with a bit of knowledge on this type of glass would recognise it so i could list it more accurately, cheers Pwayne.

Hi Pwayne,
it looks like Pelaton, check out this thread,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,9074.0.html

theres quite a few links to similar photos, and it seems possible that it may be Kralik, he
invented the technique! or Stourbridge. Marinka collects similar, she may have seen one like it.
Ignore references to a group of cyclists! Also google Pelaton for more examples.

Cheers

Sorry Pwane,
its PELOTON not pelaton!

This link from the other thread is interesting,
Mod: Link removed as content changed to inappropriate site
and as Marinka points out, Wilhelm Kralik worked for Harrach, not Kralik!

Andy ;)

It's peloton alright! Interesting colour scheme, too.
I have 40 peloton items in my collection & have not seen this exact colour until now.
I've got it on my watch list!
