Title: Archimede Seguso "for" Barovier & Toso?
Post by: a.mar.illo on December 08, 2011, 03:48:01 PM
I found this signed Barovier & Toso dove (I still canĀ“t believe it, haha), and now I saw this auction at Von Zezschwitz, Germany which attributes it to Archimede Seguso. It def. is the same dove, just in pink/gold and obviously unsigned, mine is a light lavender purple/gold (lighter than in the picture), can such a famous auctioneer go wrong or did Archimede Seguso designed for or worked with Barovier & Toso at some point? Any ideas? Thanks a lot:)

I'd say the auction house got it wrong. I'm pretty sure Archimedes Seguso never worked/designed for B & T.

It looks more like the work of B&T than AS. I have a picture of another of this design that I also noted was signed by B&T. (Not my picture, so I can't post) This bird would be unusual for AS. Many people and businesses attribute any bird with gold to them. AS did some pouter pigeons with tucked bill, but I haven't seen any that look like this. I have a feeling the auction house just said "tucked bill, pouter pigeon, got gold. Must be Archimede."

I just noticed one thing that bothers me -- the B in Barovier is capitalized. The signatures used in the 1970s and 1980s didn't have any capitals. I wish I had been able to get a picture of the signature of the bird that I have a picture of. I wonder if they ever signed things using capitals. Of if the birds were signed by someone else.

Ah, here we go. http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/382313 I like that big label. If you would like, your pigeon is most welcome in the Murano Zoo. If you will email me your name, I'll be glad to credit the pictures.
