Title: Vicke Lindstrand Vase
Post by: culverwood on April 12, 2010, 09:42:32 AM
I have a vase of a fisher-woman with a basket on her head and the vase is covered in a pattern of fishing nets all around.  The design is "modern" ie not detailed engraving.  The signature on the base is Vicke Lindsrand with no other markings as far as I can see.  Does anyone know the pattern and where it might have been made.

BTW this is my first post and I am pleased to have found this forum.

Welcome to the board, we are likely to need some photos to be able to answer your questions. A photo of the vase and one of the base showing the signature please.

Hello,

Welcome to the board. From your description, I believe that this vase is designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta, Sweden; is pattern number LG 131; and was designed in around 1955. The fishing nets should also have a string of polished roundals along their length - am I right?

Have a look and see if the mark/signature also includes the pattern number, that will confirm it  :)

Cheers, Nigel

Thanks for the replies.  Here are two more of my Orrefors pieces I would love to know more about.  I can write down the numbers on the Hald piece if they are not clear enough.

Thank you.  I bought the two Lindstrands in the 70's when I collected early 20th century art and the Hald was given to me at the same time.

The writing on the bottom of the Hald vase reads

Orrefos Sweden
Graal
mi 3886
Edward Hald

The mi could be wrong as it is indistinct

The second of the Orrefors (ie the engraving of the girl with her hands clasped together) is designed 1936-37, made in 1937 and, if that's ER, engraved by Elis Rydh, who, I believe I read somewhere, was considered one of the most skilled engravers there.
