Title: A dish with a paperweight!! ID = Strathearn (Pics gone)
Post by: rbm6167 on May 01, 2005, 01:07:08 PM
I have come across a dish before with canes inserted in the glass but never with what appears to be almost a paperweight. Can anyone help with some information on this fascinating piece?

I think it may be a Strathearn bowl having looked at Richard More's website via ysartglass.com

Yes John, it's a Strathearn dish.

There were many shapes, and in some the paperweight shows as the main feature, but in others the weight appears as a smaller element in the overall design.

Some makers have produced similar items after having a weight go wrong in some respect. Rather than bin the weight, they flattened it, added extra clear glass and formed a dish or bowl or whatever.
