Hi everyone
thanks for the replies so far.
Yes its an early Edinburgh Crystal mark. I know the elongated tail dates it between 1927 and 1939. But trying to identify the pattern is driving me bonkers.

Wouldn't know the pattern from a hole in the ground, but can I say your photography of it is excellent! :smg:

With my moderator hat on, I have changed the thread title to expand on the "E&L" bit.

You might already have tried looking through the patterns on Replacements.com but just in case you don't know of them, here is a link to their Edinburgh Crystal pages. I have spent many hours going cross-eyed trying to identify patterns through this site, sometimes successfully.

Good luck, Iain

Thanks Carolyn not bad for my first attempt and with my phone camera too!
Iain, I think I have been through this page but in a slightly different format. Thanks though. Oh yes, I know what you mean. After a while I could see my pattern in every item I looked at!!

I have tried a variety of 'replacement' sources, and came up with without a match. In view of the fact that you have confirmed this one is E&L - probably sometime around the '30's, then the pattern may well have been sufficiently long since abandoned to be unavailable from anywhere now. Although that is my guess only, and for all I know Edinburgh Crystal may have in fact continued this one for a very long time (although proabably not since we can't find it). Some patterns like Woodchester and Stratford for example (Stuart) seemed to have been produced for ever. It's a long shot, but much leg work trawling around antiques fairs/markets may well be your only hope (and a slim one at that) :)
P.S. throw it away and buy 1/2 doz. of another more recent pattern. ;)

Hi
Paul thanks for your research. That's a good idea regarding the Antique Fairs. Alas I thought my prayers would be answered immediately via the internet so hadn't really give that option much thought.
Anyway I'll give it a few weeks and if I have no luck I'll throw them (8 piece) in the recycle bin.

no, no, please don't bin eight oldish E&L glasses, my apologies for being a little flippant. Surely eight is enough for anyone, is it a football team that you're trying to inebriate. ;D You're lucky to have that many from an old set - so keep them, please.

They might be good for prawn cocktails!
Definitely not bin material!
Even if you don't get a name for the pattern, surely the E&L mark alone is enough to indicate quality.
