Post by: Derek on December 18, 2006, 12:33:30 PM
Hi all

Anyone out there know what is so special about e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270067219572 that it managed to rocket up to over £700 with 3 american bidders trading bids over it ???

Best regards

Derek

Age combined with an American flag makes for a rare paperweight!

It also has

a) Irish flag and shamrock
b) unique name built in

Not surprising it is sought after, there won't be another exactly like it. And if an American wants something, they will not baulk at paying for it.

Not like us tight stingy British... ;D

I am told by someone who knows that this was made by the Union Glass Company, Somerville, and is a very nice example of one of thier flag weights.  Regards, Alan.

Hi All

Thanks for all who posted - definitely Union Glass - someone has kindly pointed out that the following PCA page

http://www.paperweight.org/galleries/union_paperweight.html  has some good info on these flag weights.

Best regards
