I am stuck on this one too - keep thinking Holmegaard but no signature or label. Seriously nice piece though!

A scandinavian style of stopper (likely Swedish). Probably a schnapps bottle made using 'half post' method - the neck and body were fashioned separately before being fused together.

Another nice item, this thread may need to be moved to Scandinavian glass if no one comes up with an id.

Aaaargh! Sorry, John, I need to put you right over this so-called "half-post" thing. It's a glassy urban myth.

The neck and bottom part are not made seperatelty then fused, it's just a ridiculous way to attempt to do something like this.

It is made by semi-casing the piece - the part which includes the neck is first blown, then it is partially cased.

That's ok Sue, I have wondered about that. I have a Schnapps bottle from Alsterfors made with this method and partial casing does make more sense. :)

Thanks, suea! I didn't invent it and can't remember where I found it either!

I'm not exactly sure where this "half-post" notion came from, I think it was in print somewhere.
I've personally decided I will never, ever use it again, always referring to it as "semi-cased".

It is a lovely, lovely bottle, the stopper is decidedly Scandanavian, but beyond that, I really don't know. I might start thinking about Bertil Vallien and try to eliminate him first, but that's just a notion. Whether or not it will hold water is beyond me.

This semi-casing technique has been used fairly extensively by many makers - examples I personally possess are Tapio Wirrkala for Iitala, Michael Harris at Mdina and Benny Motzfeldt at Randsfjiordglass.

I'd honestly try this on the Scandanavian board.

Would a moderator be kind enough to shift it?
