Title: Unsually Large Amber tumblers!
Post by: Brownie on July 12, 2006, 11:07:32 PM
Trying to find out information on these glasses!  I purchased the at a Thift store around six months ago.
I think what attracted me to them was there size. I have 7 of them, 4 are larger (5in) and 3 are (4in), they are thick and heavy.  Also they have that "Pontil" mark??   Any inform will be helpful!

Thanks
Brownie

~Hi Brownie
the name is tortoise shell glass, and it is one of those glass colours that became very popular in the last 10 years or so. Older examples (always well finished) are from Italy; contemporary examples (rough ground or unfinished pontils, uneven edges) were made in Romania, in Poland or in India.

re blurred photograph: looks as if you came too close to the subject. Check the minimum focus distance for your camera (in many models it is 3 ft/ 90cm), respect it and use the zoom to close in.
