Title: Is this Murano? Lots of Copper but wierd shape.
Post by: loveglass on May 12, 2008, 07:50:51 PM
I can't seem to find anything in Murano that is shaped like this. I see lots of pieces with gold and copper but not one even close to this shape. If anybody knows I would love your help. Thanks http://i30.tinypic.com/1dzwog.jpg

It looks like a Fratelli Toso ashtray. The shape of the bowl and cigarette rests are very typical of their work. Toso did a lot of glass with heavy copper aventurine inclusions, so I bet it is their work.

BTW, you can find similar bowls by googling "Fratelli Toso butterfly bowl." There are several being sold online. The butterfly bowls are favorites among Toso fans.

It is a Fratelli Toso butterfly bowl, designed by Ermanno Toso in the 50's. Many of the designs resemble leaves, flowers and organic shapes. In the Frateli Toso book by Leslie Pina, you have several pages of photos by Ermanno Toso.

Thanks sandymae, I two of Leslie's books but they don't address this shape. Thanks again!
