Title: Strathearn orchid paperweight
Post by: bfg on November 26, 2012, 10:45:36 AM
Looking for confirmation or otherwise please on this weight if anyone can help.

I think I've got it down to a 'madder' colourway orchid (P4) p/w from 1970's

can anyone confirm this and maybe tighten date please?

also, is it worth risking removing the paper label (which I am very loathe to do) on the off chance there may be a P4 cane underneath?

thanks, Mel

Hi Mel
The label on your weight looks rather old and may disintegrate if you try to remove it so I would leave it alone.

I have never seen a Strathearn Orchid weight with any kind of signature cane so in my opinion there is almost certainly not one there

Hope this helps

Dave

thanks for the reply Dave, yes I think I will leave well alone!

the one I saw was on Richard More's site and I got myself confused it was an 'S' and date cane on the base.

Hi Mel

P4 is just the design designation and designs were not identified with canes. The only signature cane you will find on Strathearn weights is an S cane, and sometimes but not always a two digit date cane eg 79.

Best regards
