Title: Black and white revealing cased green glass
Post by: scavo on April 26, 2012, 06:13:15 PM
Highly polished base
Black and white revealing green. There are some long bubbles forming a circle dead centre.

No idea who or where it was made. Can you help?

Contemporary Chinese, I believe. Seen in Heart Foundation Shops' "new goods", last year or the year before.
I was rather impressed by them.  :)

Thanks Sue. You certainly keep your eye on the BHF shops!

China is the biggest consumer of luxury cars with only 5% of the population owning a car. It's no surprize they are starting to make good stuff again!

I believe a load of Polish masters have been working and teaching in China recently - the quality and finish of the glass is improving all the time.
I was impressed with these - you can look very deeply into them, and I really liked the aventurine sparkles inside - very peacock-y.
I resisted - I don't do pwts.  8)

I don't get to too many places - sometimes all I can get to see is what's coming out in charity shops and TKMaxx!

I don't usually do paperweights either. Unless it's fully marked and cheap. Apart from that I don't understand what makes a good one. In this case I just liked the look of it. And for a couple of quid it's enough.

Interesting to know Polish maestros have been over to China to teach.

I like the idea of learning about buying glass on the grounds of quality rather than labels. I'm very much a novice but love the challenge.

Me too - it's by far the most exciting and exhilarating way!

Can you give some extra info on this, please. Is it just one place that has the long bubbles or is it an effect that appears in many parts? Any chance of a closeup photo of the bubbles?

I've also noticed some inclusions that I hadn't seen with the naked eye. I think these are the flecks of gold Sue noticed.

Thanks for your interest Kevin. I hope you can see the swirl of elongated bubbles.
