Title: Glass Candy - Murano or not?
Post by: Sher on October 20, 2011, 11:38:42 PM
I recently purchased some Murano glass candies while in Venice.  I realized once I got back to the states that I wish I had bought more.  I recently bought some on ebay.  They look authentic but now I am not sure.  Does real Murano glass candies (the ones that are approximately 2.5'' long) have ridges within the wrapper ends of the glass? or should it be smooth.

Hello Sher, welcome to the GMB.

With my moderator hat on, I have created a new thread for this post, otherwise things could get confused if people reply to different subjects in one thread.

I have left this thread in the Murano forum for now, but it is possible that your candies, even though purchased in Murano, could be Chinese versions but (sadly) sold in Murano. However, I have virtually no experience of those items so I will leave it to others to add what they can.

I know for a fact that candies have been / are being produced in Murano - but also that Czech factories and Chinese producers have been churning them out to an almost indistinguishable quality. I doubt if anyone can sort them out...
