Title: Double vinegar / oil pot? - Probably Made in Italy
Post by: Anne on September 06, 2009, 01:09:43 AM
This was given to me when buying some other glass ("take it or it goes in the skip tonight") so out of curiosity it came home and was cleaned up...  I think it's an oil / vinegar bottle duo. Is that right? The plastic lids are elderly looking - one is totally trashed and needs chucking, other still usable, just! (Can I get replacements for the lids?) Size is approx 6" x 3" x 5" tall to top of handle (150mm x 75mm x 125mm.)

I've not seen one of these before so wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how old it might be and who made them? No marks on it at all... I suspected it might be from a bottle works but then it might not!

Handle is so sloppy that it was most likely someone playing with some failed pieces... necks differ too. Plastic should date them to 1950s... unless that red is celluloid type. Take a flake and see if it burns well - if yes much earlier is a poss.

I've almost given up hope of finding out who made this!

Made in Italy on the bottom of this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-PRESSED-GLASS-CRUET-DOUBLE-CRUET-ITALY-VF-/261911020564?hash=item3cfb1d0414

How does it compare?

Oooh very similar TC, thank you! I'm pretty sure there's nothing on the base of mine but I shall go and check again now. I've popped it into the charity box just today, so shall have to unpack it again!

Just looked and there is nothing on the base re Italy but as far as I can see from the seller's pics it is a match for mine.  The handle is slightly squiffy on mine but the pattern on the bottles seems to match!  Thanks TC, I can send it off now knowing what it was. :)

First time i put down a ID without a full idea.

VE? Vetreria Etrusca?
The Ebay pics are no big enough to get the mark on the bottom.

Good thought, Gab. But the eBay listing says "VF", so are you suggesting it should say "VE" or did you misread the listing?

here is the Vetreria Etrusca mark on glass.
So maybe the seller misreaded the mark.....probably

The listing says, "VF--NO CHIPS--NO CRACKS" which I read as shorthand for Very Fine (condition) - rather than VF as a maker's mark. The seller says the piece is marked "MADE IN ITALY---ON BOTTOM".

Ok correct Anne, I misreaded.
so...it will be very difficult to make an ID.

It's a semi-automatic item for sure, linked with an hand made handle.
The plastic look like more 70's or half 60's.

I saw one in green on ebay with no marks, maybe an Empoli bottle maker?

Turquoise coloured one...
