Hi All,
I picked up this bowl at the weekend thinking it was Mdina, once I turned it over I saw the flame pontil stamp for the Isle of White but I don't recognise the pattern.
The brown colour is similar to Tortoiseshell but is random throughout the glass the back colour is bluey green and to the interior is a sandy yellow ochre very similar to early Mdina. The bowl is 4.5" high and 5.5" across and is quite heavy.
Has any one come across anything similar or do you think its known design/colour way that's gone wrong - Aurene perhaps.

Can you take a photo of it in daylight? And another of the base please.
The shape would be called bell vase, no idea what the colour is though.

Thanks for the reply.
I will take a photo in daylight on Wednesday, I will be out early and in late tomorrow so will not see much light!!

Despite not being exactly sure about colours, the flame pontil mark does indicate a time period between '73 and around '79.
It's certainly not any known range, so most likely an experimental piece. The close similarities it bears with features found in Mdina would, to me, suggest early experimental rather than later. I'd put it near '73.
A rather lovely and interesting thing, but I'd like to see unflashed pics too, pretty, please?

Hi,
Managed to take some photos without flash and in my window. Too cold and wet outside. Hope these help.
