Title: Depression Glass Cup And Saucer ( I think!)

Hi All,

This cup and saucer has been annoying me for ages now, and as I know next to nothing about depression glass patterns (apart from the more common ones :lol: )

This looks like swags and tails and long bits  :oops:  but because it is in clear glass it doesn't show up that well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it  :wink:

Hi Barbara, I've looked through my depression glass book but can't see that pattern.

Actually I do think that it is depression glass. My book is not comprehensive though only a small one.

Hi Anne,

Thats so like it, with the trailing foliage type thingy whatsit decoration, and the middle of your bowl has the same style decoration as the middle of my saucer.

I'm not all that keen on it to be honest, it would look so much nicer in either pink or green.

Can't help with the pattern name, Going on the shape of the bowl,  I am betting that the bowl was made by Federal Glass.Anyway a good place to start searching.

This dish is very similar to depression glass, but was made in the 1880's and has the Greener lion in the middle. The quality is wonderful especially the little raised flower centres.

In the glass book by John Sandon, he says that depression glass was influenced by French pressed glass of the early 1900's, but looking at this piece, I wonder if earlier British glass works were copied.

When Anne posted the picture of her mystery bowl, I looked through all my American Depression Glass books and could not find that pattern. Although it is similar to some Federal Glass patterns, I don't think it is American.

Who else may that type of glass then? I thought it was a strictly American art form :wink:

Well I'll sling it on that well known auction site in a couple of days and see if anyone either wants it or can shed more light on it!

I also cant find either of those patterns in any of my American Depression Glass books
