Title: Bimini deer
Post by: Tigerchips on August 15, 2006, 09:30:22 AM
I recently saw two lampwork deer's which I believed to be by Bimini though I wasn't sure at the time. They were £5 each.

A bit like this one only all in white and more fragile looking.

I was put off buying them because of a funny looking grey colour underneath it's neck and elsewhere. I wasn't sure if it had been stained in some way or it was part of the decoration?

Thanks, Tony.  :)

Were the two you saw anything like this, Tony? http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10048/normal_Laschau_stag.jpg

He's extremely fragile, completely hollow, very thin glass!

Sadly, you may be able to see he's lost the tip of one antler.  I thought he might be Laschau, not Bimini, but I'd be interested to hear what other people think.

I seem to remember the neck and the body being a lot thinner.

It was extremely lightweight and the base was the same as the one's shown.

Perhaps the grey bits were just bits of dirt on the inside that had gathered over the years. But I didn't see any holes in it for the dirt to get into.   I tried wiping it away but it just stayed there. :?

Mine has his mouth open, and it leads to the (completely hollow) inside, so dirt could well get in there, particularly in the throat, I'd have thought.
