Title: Uranium Art Deco glass float bowl with lilypads?
Post by: oyemicanto on October 01, 2011, 01:22:10 PM
Hello
I have just aquired this bowl in a set which had the Mueller long haired lady and frog in it.
I have never come across this bowl before and wondered if anyone had any idea about origins please?
Best wishes and thanks in advance
Nige

Hi Nige

Mueller is the maker I believe. I had one in blue with the girl riding the turtle sitting on it.

Cheers
Brenton

Hi Brenton
I didn't know if it was Mueller as I thought this was a marriage with the Mueller lady in it.I tend to find that usually the float bowls mirror the figures in terms of themes.....eg Arabella in the fish bowl.So I thought why would a lady be in a bowl with a pond theme?
Makes sense if it is the girl on turtle or maybe the boy on fish? I will never find a green girl on turtle....I did find the blue one once in a different float bowl and it was dirt cheap! I did a swap for that a while ago.
Do you think that Mueller made the girl on turtle/boy on fish?

Yes. I do believe Mueller made the boy riding the fish as well as the girl riding the turtle. Having said that, I also believe similar items are been made by the Czechs :)

Thankyou for your discussion threads
Ive just bought the Amber Boy on a fish who I think (from my research on Greek Mythology may be called "PALAIMON" (or Palaemon) was a young sea-god who, with his mother Leukothea, came to the aid of sailors in distress:

For more On who he is: http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Palaimon.html

As to the designer - i as ever am inspired by your knowledge in the Forum!!!

Hi Antoinette
That is absolutely amazing and I by the looks on that Greek thread you are bang on!
It is amazing how some Deco glass comes to be such as Walthers Undine figure which Undine was a water nymph. Also the lady on rocks lamp(she sits on rocks with an urn) I am sure comes from a German myth-Lorelei-a sea maiden/siren who tempted sailors to their doom.
The amber boy on fish you have I have an amber frosted leaves float bowl that the boy is sometimes seen in.
This lilypad bowl is a bit bigger and heavier and I would love to find the amber one!
