i saw this thing like 10 or so years ago on TV, it is a glass sphere that is nearly invisible to the naked eye, Pres bill clinton had one on his desk, i believe it is about 8" or so in diameter. For some reason i have the name Orions Sphere stuck in my head, but i cannot find anything on the internet about that. So either i have the name wrong, or there is no info on the net about it. After using keyword searches, i still am with out a hit. so i figured people that are intrested in glass maybe could help out. SO please help out??????????
Mod: Note: this object was a hoax. So that it will be preserved for historical interest, the thread has been moved to Resolved rather than Cafe.

fishnet float if it is hollow, or crystal ball if solid, door stopper if it has a base. Unless you mean one of these gruesome novelties which plugs in and flashes static discharges?
-
its a novelty and it has a base to support it, hollow or solid i do not know.
but the unique think about it is the fact that it is nearly invisible (if you did not know it was there you would not notice it)

It may well have been a special commission with some significance to its owner or a piece of art. But one advantage of public offices is that they do keep detailed inventories - try writing to the White House and you should be able to the full story. Let us know what you find out.

i saw this thing on one of those discovery channel type "odd stuff" shows, and it was a novelty item, for resale, the glass was originally designed for windows, but since they were nearly invisible, there were certain unsafe aspects to having windows that you could not see, (walking into them, not noticing if they are opened or closed etc...) so the project was scratched and they created misc items out of this glass one of them being that ball they said that it was so clear that if you forgot where you put it, you would have a hard time finding it, as a matter of fact, they has to use a special light so that they could film this thing for the show.

Sounds like a coating, Corning do lots of specialised coatings so maybe it was from them.

the reason i started this post was because years ago when i first saw this thing i assumed that i could not afford to buy one
and now that im wealthier and the newness of it had worn out i figured i could buy one if i could locate a retailer
so when i found that web article i posted above i got excited, then after more research i found this
