Title: Oiva Toikka Nuttajarvi Bird Date Please?
Post by: suzi99 on December 08, 2005, 04:32:17 AM
Hi I have a pair of these they are actually grey not blue for some reason my camera is doing funny things with colours.  The are rather large measuring 8 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches.  They have red heads, are signed with stickers but I am interested in the year or any other info people could give me thankyou.

Thank you ivo.  I like to catologue all my items for reference for my daughter in the future when one day she will inherit all my items.  I also have posted another couple of birds that I have not a clue as to their origin.  They were sold to me at auction as possibly stromberg if you'd care to take a look.  They came from the same person I bought these 2 nuutajarvi from & I know they mainly collected scandanavian glass, so I'm assuming there from there somewhere.

Title: Found one on ebay
Post by: suzi99 on December 09, 2005, 10:08:52 PM
Hi Ivo I found the exact same bird on ebay but being sold as is as has a broken beak.  They just have it listed as red head bird but definitely looks the same as mine.

AHA finally my nickel dropped you posted this in another thread! Now I agree  with Peter that there is no reason to assume Strömberg for that stylised bird...

Yeah I have had to expert opinions on the stylised birds that I have posted in the other thread.  They believe them to be made by Livio Seguso between 1960 & 70 & after checking some of his work from that period I think they might be spot on.  Very similar in form, shape & colour.  So you were on the right track I think with the Italian origin.  Thanks   :P

Hi Ivo you was thinking my bird was the capercaillie after checking one out on Iittala website I don't think it is the beak looks all wrong.  Check link below & view the pic of my bird & this one & see what you think.

sorry i only looked at the Designlasin HIntakirja and it has line drawings so you can not actually see the shape of the beak. "Birds by Toikka" published by Iittala has it listed as "FASAANI" - you get three guesses what that means, and it has been in production since 1981. suggested retail price 2004 is 178 Euros.

Thanks Ivo yes that's the one the same as my two birds.  Now I'll be able to catalogue them properly, thanks again  :D
Title: On closer inspection
Post by: suzi99 on December 18, 2005, 12:32:05 PM
Ivo on closer inspection I don't think Fasaani is the correct bird.  It you have a look at the wing on the fasaani it sweeps back towards the tail.  On my bird it is different. I am starting to wonder if my bird may be rare as I haven't been able to find it on google, or iittala discontinued. The only one I have been able to find is the link I posted earlier which was on ebay but that one had a broken beak.  I'm getting sick of looking at birds trying to find match :
