Title: Help with Identifying some glass please.
Post by: zidori on March 25, 2007, 09:09:20 AM
Here is a picture of my very recent auction purchases. I am having great fun identifying the different pieces of glass but am not sure about one or two of them. I would be very grateful for any help in confirming or correcting my opinion.
Regards
Ronnie

As I mentioned Zidori, we'll see how these go and then maybe move some to the Murano board.   :)  Cheers!

Hello Ronnie,

What a great mixed lot - all in one package??

Apart from asking a couple of questions about the pink piece, I can't be conclusive about the other items you photographed in detail - so it's best not to comment.

Is the surface of the pink bowl irridised, as it appears it could be, but it may be a trick of the light. Can you supply a more detailed pic of the colour and the way it's laid into this bowl please?

Is there any chance you also supply a couple of pics of the green paperweight near the bottom of the group pic, and to the lower right of the p'weight that you've already given pics of - either on the board, or direct to me please Ronnie? Thanks a lot.

Nigel

Nigel
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
The glass came in two large assorted lots at a total cost of £28.
The surface of the pink bowl is not irridised. I will attempt to provide different photographs to show how the colour is laid in. If you look inside the bowl, the colour appears sandwiched between two layers of glass - a thin inner layer and a thick outer casing. Photos will follow once I get them taken with the good digital camera.
The green dump weight is shown below.

P.S Thanks again Max  for your help and guidance.

The green press moulded vase in the left rear corner of the first picture is by August Walther/ Sachsenglas in their 'Luttich' pattern. The tall turquoise moulded vase next to it is one of a series of vases illustrated in the 1937 catalogue of the French glass importer H. Markhbeinn (thanks to S. Geiselberger of www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de). They are Czech in origin and have often been attributed to Riedel, Polubny, though Inwald is also a strong possibility.

Oh sorry josordini - No! I had to pay separately for the paperweights but not a big price - £20something for the two paperweights.
The Wemyss plate and the Monart bowl and glasses near the front of pic were separate purchases - everything else was bought in the two lots. The lamp was in one lot which is why I bid for it and the pink vase was in the second lot and it caught my eye. All the rest was a bonus - in fact I didn't realise there was so much until I went to collect it.

Thank you Steven for your input. I shall now follow that up and add to my notes (and hopefully knowledge) for future reference.

Hi Ronnie, looks like you have some Whitefriars in there.

The two golden amber bubble bowls and the green one next to them on the left.  Probably pattern no. 9099.  What diameter are they?

The ruby bark bowl in the centre is 1967(?)-1980 textured range - sorry, can't find pattern no. at the moment.

The golden amber vase on the right looks like a Hogan design but it is outside the range of WF that I collect so I can't say for certain.

Try www.whitefriars.com for more info.

Hi Ronnie,

Thanks for the photos. How embarressing :-[ From the top the dump looked very similar to a known Nazeing paperweight pattern, but sadly it ain't ???

As to the pink bowl, could you confirm that there are random bubbles of various sizes throughout the outer casing? Does the pink also have a sort of white layer on the inside of the bowl? That is to say more white on the inside than mixed into the colour.

Hi Nigel
Yes - there are random bubbles of different sizes through the outer casing and your description of the colours is absolutely spot on.

Thanks for info Tim.
The diameter of one amber and one green is 5 inches and the diameter of the other amber is 4 inches.

Yep, 4" and 5" are perfect - they made them up to 12" if you can imagine :o  The green one could be any of 2 or 3 colours, if you want to take a photo against a white background in daylight that would make it easier to say which.

Let me know if you want to move the 5" gold one on, I know of a collection that is missing that size ;)

If you go to 'Profile' and click 'Account Related Settings' there's a button you can un-check - 'Hide email address from public?'

This is the default setting

Hello Ronnie,

I hope you don't mind, but I've decided to email you directly, as I don't want to mislead folks with my thoughts. It would be much better to be more conclusive before making comment in this instance.

Kind regards, Nigel
