Title: Caithnessy posy possibly?
Post by: Ivo on July 11, 2005, 02:19:34 PM

6"diameter posy in mottled green and grey powder, pontil mark broken off and roughly ground. Quite a different feel to it than the S&W item we discussed here a while ago. Obviously British (no one else seems to have ever made this shape anywhere) - but is it Caithness, or Grey-Stan??

Ivo — the shape with the slightly recurved top is nearly Nazeing, and the bubbles are also nearly Nazeing.   The trouble is that there is a fair amount of nearly Nazeing about that is not Nazeing.   I wouldn't like to make a judgment without having it in my hands, and, even then, I might not be able to be certain.

Hopefully a member with more experience will be more help.

:D Not Caithnes anyway! :D I've never seen Caithness with a rough pontil mark. They always seems to be polished smooth and flat.

None of the above... agreed.

There are a few rather roughly made types like this and probably from more than one maker. Monart, Vasart and Nazeing also made similar shapes, they were/are an ideal shape for a central posy decoration on a small dinner table. The flowers dome nicely and as most of the pieces are yucky also cover the glass :)

Thank ye'all . I'll note it down as "more than one maker, not Caithness and not nearly Nazeing".

Ahhhhh Ivo, your Tinypic has vanished into the ether - do you still have a picture you could add back into this topic please?
Title: Mushroom posy vase - Nazeing or another?
Post by: Anne on October 27, 2008, 03:15:41 AM
Can anyone confirm the maker of this please?
Height = 70mm
Diameter top = 150mm
Diameter base = 70mm
Base = pontil scar partly ground (not rough to the touch)
The green doesn't react to a blacklight.

Thanks Ivo, I had a feeling it was, as I'd seen one like mine on the board and thought it was yours. I've merged my query in to this topic now to keep all the info together.  I'd say yours and mine are from the same stable, wherever that may be...

Nigel says here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,41978.msg233424.html#msg233424 that this is "from the Elwell / Nazeing(?) series of wares."

Thought that was it, retaining new stuff seems to be harder than old these days.
