Title: Blue glass decanter with swan topper
Post by: Littleblackhen on January 31, 2008, 08:50:50 AM
I have a chance of buying a lovely blue glass decanter with clear glass trailing and a swan shaped stopper.  I like it, but the postage cost is pushing it up quite high, and I am wanting to know a bit more about it, basically whether it is worth me spending £12 on the postage!

I was told it is from Spain.

Could anyone tell me more about it, such as maker, age etc please?

Thanks  :)

I love that little swan!   But I bet it'll take some careful packing to get it safely to you.  (I collect Whitefriars swans, and they are b****rs to pack!  ::) )  I suppose £12 p&p is a bit high, but it depends how it's being sent, too -  ordinary first class post, special delivery, whatever.  And it depends how much the decanter plus p&p is in total as to whether it's worth it to you, at the end of the day!

Sorry I can't help with the maker, etc.

Hi Leni

Thanks for your answer :)

I love the little swan too :)  I have a lovely pair of Whitefriars swans on sale at the moment

I just don't know if this decantor is worth it to me or not, without seeing the quality of it in person.  I was hoping someone might recognise the maker and be able to tell me if it is likely to be a quality item or a quickly turned out tourist item.  I think the seller saying it came from Spain has worried me, as I don't know anything at all about Spanish glass   Or most other glass come to that  ;D

I bid on this on ebay, but without postage costs being specified. The seller has informed me of the postage costs, and has also informed me that he will only be making 49p on the sale and is clearly hoping that I will say not to bother.  I do need to answer him as soon as possible.

The swan alone makes it quite desirable, some Spanish glass is touristware, but then so is much that is collected from other countries.

Sounds like extortionate postage to me if it's coming from the UK seeing as a 6 kg parcel only costs £9.35

We have negotiated and settled on me sending him £10 to cover the postage and cost of the decanter :)

I eagerly await it's arrival.  I do hope it is worth it, but I think it will be.

Sounds much more reasonable to me  ;D

To me these two items don't look right together at all. They are different shades and together the proportions are very distorted. I smell a marriage.   Ed.
