Don't know how big they made these but at 17.5 inches it's a whopper, folded rim, diagonal ribs and opalescent, now where will it go? ;D ;D
-
Oh MY!! ;D they are stunning!!
Is that 'pulled up' decoration - as in the pulled up machine?
My handle looks like that one so possibly off a bell then

I'm going to have to read up on 'pulled up machine' I'm not so good on the technical side of glass making and am not sure what to look for,Northwood's machine I believe?
-
I'm personally not so fond of this one (pink :-X ), but am wondering if the name Nailsea would be appropriate to mention.
Clearly top quality work!
-
Well done! Is the rim uranium?
-
Shall have to check Christine, can't find many images in my books,Gulliver's 1850-1914 has what I think is a perfect description, page 74,the paragraph on opalescent glass,in particular the 'dip-mould' reference. In regards to M's comment on 'Pulled up' machine I don't think it is but is this?A Webb vase(1935-49) that has small 'v' shaped marks three quarters of the way down the body
-
Well spotted Christine,uranium it is! ;D ;D
-
These eyes are tuned in to Olympic standard!
Your Webb vase isn't pulled up.
See Hajdamach 1800-1914 p280-281

Thanks Christine,I take it those marks, difficult to tell from photos,on the 'osiris' pieces are left by the 'teeth' from the pulled up machine?if so what technique is used to create the marks on the Webb vase? sorry for all the questions ::) ;D ;D

Nailsea type "threaded" decoration is wide looping (like gadrooning). The threading on this bell is very close set, very even and very tidy which does suggest machine threaded.
-
I think a pull-up machine was just a posh device/comb for creating feathered effects on applied trails or threading. I'm not sure what I'm seeing on your Webb vase

|More bells here and on the other bell thread I've posted a link to apparently attributed Nailsea bells as Sue mentioned earlier
http://www.antiqueglass.co.uk/DecorativeGlass.php?pageNum_RSDecorativeGlass=2&totalRows_RSDecorativeGlass=56
The bells in this link seem to be attributed to c.1870

I may be barking up the wrong tree, but there are similarities between the bell and this piece John (Glassobsessed) had. It's John's (cropped) image I'm posting here. hope you don't mind, John - but I can't think how to track down your thread about it. ???
-
Thanks for the link m,those prices are high, looks like I got a good deal on mine,it does seem that they are English. ;D
Sue; quite similar, makes my eyes go funny looking at that decor' :o
-
so do mine... then my tummy follows in quick pursuit... :-X
-
No problem Sue but my copyright lawyer is having kittens. ;)
Here is that thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,46838.0.html

I shall take full responsibilty John - and adopt them all. I can't bear to think of kittens without homes. :'(
Your laywer was very remiss in not having the parent cats neutered. >:(
