Title: ID: 2x Kerosene lamps w/fish on base.
Post by: iCollect on September 19, 2012, 08:51:08 AM
My second ID post , I Really like the style of these 2 beautiful oil lamps. They stand around 25cm tall without the chimneys, feature a Fish around the base. I have these 2 right now But have seen them in a Forest Green + Flint, Can anyone tell me there origins?

Thank you.

I have one of these in clear glass. On the metal turning wheel it says 'produtos cormache'. Presumably it's by one of the continental pressed glass factories.

What is says on the metalwork is often unrelated to where the glass was made...
And these are mould-blown, not pressed.

A couple of people have said These are Victorian? Is this possible? Too me the Blue Milk glass Looks too be much older then the amber? Do you think these were reproduced?

Maybe, maybe not. They are probably about the same age but it's difficult to know how old they are. The fact that I found a complete one in green buy it now for under £50 is perhaps not a good sign.

Yes it was on ebay. I wasn't commenting on the value, rather that the low price might imply newer rather than older

It wouldn't surprise me if it's 1950-60s vintage. Mine's dirty but doesn't have much wear on it. I picked it up for 50p at a jumble sale last year, so £50 for one is pretty expensive.
I remember my parents buying a brand new pressed glass kerosene lamp when we were on holiday back in the 70s, although I can't remember the design on it now, but it was probably a copy of an old Victorian one. I think they were coming over from Eastern Europe at the time.

That's kind of what I had in mind when I said newer
