Title: BUTTERFLY PAPERWEIGHT....MUCH APPRECIATE ATTRIBUTION PLEASE
Post by: Morgan48 on February 26, 2012, 05:10:36 PM

Hi....... Would very much appreciate possible attribution on the attached paperweight.

Basic details are approx 7cm diameter and approx 5cms high. Held up to the light the ground colour is somewhere between amethyst and violet. Snap pontil on a concave base.

regards and thanks

Gareth

Hi there:

Lovely PW there!!  I can not confirm who the maker is but it does have some similarities to my Butterfly PW Click HERE (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,37711.0.html).   Someone will more knowledge will be able to say/or confirm if it is.  Just thought I would let you see another Butterfly PW.  They are Pretty !!

I'd suggest Paul Ysart, pre-1960.

Alan is correct. Certainly pre-1961 but I would say probably 1930s.

PY butterflies with wings formed with multiple millefiori canes are less common than those with lampwork wings. And examples set without an outer garland of canes are less common still. I have only one multi-millefiori wing example and that has a garland of canes. See my web page (http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/pages/catalog/py-butterfly.htm).

Lovely thing (for a pwt,  >:D ). I'm really pleased - my guts said "Scottish". I must be osmosing pwt stuff - I'm surprised I was sort of right.

Hi Kev et al

Here is a Paul Ysart millefiori wing butterfly without garland - and with a PY cane in each wing!
