Title: THE most beautiful plate/bowl, Iridescent, strapping, feathers any ideas
Post by: jonchellycain on September 09, 2009, 06:16:33 PM
Hi all
I picked this plate up today in total amazement for just £3 in the charity shop, it has to be on of the most gorgeous plates ive ever seen and ive fallen madly in love with it (infact i keep finding myself carressing it whilst sat on the sofa in a bit of a day dream  ;D)
It really is 100 times better than i could ever photograph.
Ok Top quality glass, it has iridescent finish which has what i would say is like a crackled effect to it?? satin touch (really tactile)
The underside has green strapping with 3 large blobs over each blob is a gold/bronze coloured effect which is rough to the touch which has been pushed and wonderfully (and very skillfully) feathered. Im not sure if its intentional i would imagine it is but they look like peacocks feathers.
The underside has a ground out and well polished pontil. There is barely a scratch on it infact i would go so far to say it looks as though it came straight from the glory hole yesterday
It is 29cms in diameter and weighs just short of 1kg
My god its beautiful.. i mean ive well and truly fallen madly in love.
Does any body have any ideas who it might be?? when i first saw it i thought Iestyn Davies as it has a similar feel to the Visage vase i had but its even better quality.
many thanks in advance
Michelle

The finish is called stretch iridescence, which may help your search. It's certainly gorgeous and well worth £3!

Thanks Christine, will keep searching, at the moment anything will help as im not really coming up with anything... but somewhere in the distant memory banks is a design called peacock could be almost anything though.
Ive been amazed as ive had a rubbish couple of weeks not really finding anything exciting or anything at all, then today ive managed to get a few nice pieces

hi Michelle,
almost certainly made by Poschinger in Frauenau.
if you try ´Poschinger´ on ebay.de you´ll find similar items (mainly vases).
i´m not too confident yours is an old piece, but rather 1980´s. i may be
wrong though...

Dirk your amazing  :hiclp:, found this on ebay which looks very similar in style and quality
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Poschinger-Jugendstil-Iridescent-Threaded-Heart-Vase_W0QQitemZ370254381352QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5634e18128&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

when it works it really works :hiclp:
will get to researching then
Im pretty sure this is brand new as its not got any wear at all, anywhere

the vase in your link definitely isn´t ´Jugendstil´ - until you stretch that time
period to the 80´s...  ;D

That vase might be similar, but it's no cigar if you ask me, although Dirk might be right with Poschinger. The vase in the link looks like a great lump of glass whereas Michelles' plate/bowl looks much finer and better quality.

It is much nicer than the pieces that are currently on ebay in my opinion, heres another piece from the GMB which looks a bit nicer http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=21126.0
