Title: C. Ramsey paperweights
Post by: Frank on August 03, 2011, 04:37:18 PM
Mod: This thread has been created by splitting text from a post in 2005 by "David555", who now posts under the name of "adam20". The quoted text here is a cut and paste from the original thread.

3" diam - hand etched CR 1979 to base. I know this is for Colin (Collin) Ramsey as I have had some with his full name etched and the style of writing is the same - I have sold a few CR weights in past to a guy who knew him and said he used to work for Selkirk, that's all I know - this is not a good photo, weight has a mottled basket with two scarlet tulips coming out either side and controlled bubbles to either side and in centres of flowers. [A "hometown" link was provided in the origional thread but the image is no longer availble - see Adam's reissue of the photo below.]

There is also a Charles V Ramsey that also made weights as well as glassware, active from the 1970s until a couple of years ago. Mostly Inverness area.

Has anyone got any confirmation on 'Colin' ?

Hi there.

I always thought the weights signed C Ramsey were by Charles Ramsey of the London Glassblowing Studio group run by Peter Layton?

Cheers

Keith

Charles did work with Peter Layton but ended up in Scotland. What I am trying to find out is if 'Colin' is a red herring...

Here is a pic of C Ramsay weight again - note it's an old photo and no image of marks to base - also it's C Ramsay not G

Just reread your first post where you said
Quote
Colin (Collin) Ramsey as I have had some with his full name etched and the style of writing is the same
could that have been a misreading of, say, Chas V Ramsey?

It could well have been a misreading Frank

However I can't really remember and to my dismay I have no photos of the marks to study - these Ramsey paperweights were sold many years ago

Sorry

Adam

Found picture of second Ramsey paperweight - sorry for confusion

Signed C R 1979 but could be G R?

Presuming R is for Ramsey
