Title: Uranium vase - Chribska? Who is TOLETLE?
Post by: Anik R on April 25, 2010, 09:23:59 AM
Hello  :)

Can anyone identify this vase?  The seller describes it as being an "old, rare, large uranium glass vase, signed TOLETLE".  There is a lot of wear to it.  I think it looks very similar to some Chribska vases.  Thank you!!

I might need some convincing that was uranium. Does the seller mention that it's badly watermarked?

No, the seller doesn't mention why it's badly watermarked...  Not that it really matters to me since I won't be buying it (I'm too cheap to spend 100zł ;D)  I was just wondering about the maker...  :)

The water marks look terrible. They look permanent to me unless some hard work is done.

It could be the previous owner's name.

Christine, I think you might be right about the 'signature'...

As for the seller, something about him is very fishy -- I wrote to him, asking about the water stain and requesting that he wash the vase and send me more pictures, including a better one of the signature.  He refused, saying "the vase is in very good condition, just a little dirty.  I kept flowers in it for 2 months, hence the stains.  I am selling it as it is and I will not wash it."  Aha, and he ignored my request to send me a picture of the uranium vase 'glowing'.  Highly polite and professional behavior  :o

If the vase is, as the seller describes, "old, rare... signed...", why on earth would he even use it?  Heck, use it and leave water in it, and then not bother to wash it?  I think there is a little "BS" in his story.

So the vase is not uranium, TOLETLE is not the maker's signature, and I strongly doubt the vase is "old, rare and in very good condition"  :-X

End of story  ;D

The vase is not very old (max 60ties ) not uranium and TOLETLE means nothing, it is not name, perhaps wrongly read.
You will find it in one from Chribska catalogues at my web, I am sure. It is atatributed to Hospodka. Such type of glass was very rare signed, it is really not unique.

Thank you, Jindrich!

I'm so proud that I was able to recognize it as Chribska  ;D  Too bad the seller doesn't know half as much  ::)

And thank you to everyone who bothered to write -- I appreciate it!
