Title: Flea Market Finds Holmegaard??
Post by: suzi99 on January 07, 2006, 03:39:52 AM
Hi I picked these up today the first one is the blue glass which I got 5 of.  They look like something I had seen Holmegaard do.  They are 5 inches tall.  Any clues to their identity would be great.

The second one is this unusual upside down cannister sort of tree shaped.  It looks familiar but I can't think for the life of me where I have seen it.  Similar to something Jacob Bang designed maybe?

Neither of them are Holmegaard... I think (I might be wrong - I frequently am!).

Although if either of them were to be Holmegaard, I'd say the Christmas tree has the best chance.

I'm sure I've seen the blue vase recently on a website, but I can't seem to find it in my bookmarks.

At first I thought your Christmas tree might be by Morgantown Glass, but the base is different. The Christmas tree stacked jar by Morgantown has a smaller base giving it a more tree like appearance.

Blimey!  I've only just got up!   <wipes eyes>

I don't think the blue one is Riihimaki, I haven't seen that style before anyway.   :)

Edit:  Perhaps a better photo might help?  Can't see the base very well.

Hi Suzi

Although your vase looks like it could be a Scandinavian shape, I don't think it is.  Although it's pretty, the blue colour doesn't feel right to me.  It's a little too 'brassy', and the Scandi blue is generally gentler colour.

The glass on the whole looks a little too thin, and although most Scandi vase pieces are cased, yours isn't.

I would say this vase isn't Scandinavian, based on those three observations.  This is only my opinion though.  Good luck with Flickr...I hope you find some help there.   :)

I've some Ekenas and Riihimaen in a very similar colour, so it's not what's bothering me - it's mainly the uneveness of the colouring, as well as the fact that it's not cased which leads me to agree with you, Max.

I think possibly Polish?
