This vase is lead crystal (VERY heavy) and has a sharp (wheel-cut?) criss-cross pattern on front and back.  Sides are clear and unpatterned.

Both rim and base are flat ground, and the base additionally has a large, oval, ground-out punty mark.

Max dimensions: 198 mm W,  112 mm H, 60 mm deep.

I can't find any info about this vase, and it's obviously top quality.
Grateful for any help.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Designed by Václav Žahour, for Bohemia Glassworks, Podebrady, 1962. If not signed, he did not cut this personally. Pattern is TS842, but I don't have the item number.

Marcus

Terrific, Marcus!  Thanks very much, both for this and your response on the 5 vases.

This is a lovely piece, and it's great to know that it can be identified.
I've checked minutely, but can find no trace of a signature :-(

Some of the pattern is very sharp, whereas other areas have more rounded detail.  Could it be a mixture of a moulded pattern touched up by cutting/engraving?  Was that a common practice, do you know?

I can't for the life of me work out why there is a ground-out centre to the base.  The top rim is ground flat, thus there ought to have been no need to apply a punty rod to finish it in the glory-hole.

Respect! :-)
Chris

Hi Chris,
This is more than probably a press-moulded blank, fire-polished before cutting. A very familiar form from Bohemia Glassworks, and many interesting and innovative new patterns of cutting were developed by the designers there.
