Title: Milk Glass Dish - Dog & Duck. Vallerysthal? ID = Likely Atterbury and Co. 1880s
Post by: dorian_graye on November 04, 2011, 10:11:52 PM
Hello to all.  I found this very unusual milk glass dish or platter at a thrift shop.  While milk glass is out of my comfort zone, it was to unusual to pass up.  Can anyone verify the maker of this piece?

Not seen this one before and it is a bit too white to be Valerysthal but it might be anyway.  And really, it is a swimming dog which makes more sense than a duckhunting bear.

:-[  Well, that's embarrassing.  I assumed it was a polar bear because it was painted white.  HA!  Oh well.....

Perhaps a moderator can change the subject line from bear to dog for future reference?

This platter is known as "Retriever" among collectors of Milk Glass here in the USA. The maker is likely Atterbury and Co. of Pittsburgh in the 1880s.
