Title: Moulded glass dog's head
Post by: Wuff on April 22, 2007, 12:42:30 PM
I have recently acquired this dog's head:

It is 70 mm high and 70 mm (back to nose) / 61 mm (ear to ear) wide, weighs 335 g. The base is a 6 to 8 mm wide rim, with the convex bottom recessed about 7 mm. There are no maker's marks whatsoever - and I would appreciate any hints about it's origin.
Best regards  -  Wolf

Hi Wolf,
First impressions are French or Czech. I have seen similar, from Hermanova Hut' immediately after WWII, so possibly Stolzle were making similar, earlier. Possibly a car mascot.
Regards,
Marcus

Thank you for your hint, Marcus!

Shortly after "my" dog a somewhat similar cat was offered on http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330114846454 (http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330114846454) - with Nybro / Sweden given as manufacturer. As there was no bid, it was re-entered - this time just mentioning Sweden, no longer Nybro specifically - and sold. During the second auction the question about the back of the head was raised: answer was "no complete head, just a flat frosted back" - so it doesn't seem to be as similar (to my dog) as the pictures suggest at first sight.

I am very very sorry for this, and will doubtless be cafe'd for it.

But.......

How apt for a doggy like that to be bought by Wuff.......

No problem - I'm Wuff because I love dogs - both living ones and made of other material ;D.

I did wonder Wolf, if that is why your nickname is Wuff, but thought it might just be a play on Wolf.

Wolves are just doggies with chutzpah anyway... 8)
