Title: Very unusual bird sculpture. Anyone recognise? ID = Pier Glass Studio, Eastborne
Post by: scavo on November 26, 2011, 09:55:44 PM
Stands about 8" high on a marble base.
Does anyone know where it may have been made? Or who may have made it?
Thanks for any comments in advance.

Not sure but you could contact Duncan Smith LINK (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29:duncan-smith--lampworker&catid=20:scottish-glass-makers-n-s&Itemid=14)

hmmm, thanks for the link.
I see where you are pointing but I think not the same. Dunc's bases seem to be made of glass. Mine is marble which is a little unexpected (for me at least).

Attribution confired from Glenda at Pier Glass Studio, Eastborne:

"Yes I can confirm this is one of our models probably made in the late 1980's as we previously mounted them on marble.Thank you for your interest .

Lovely to get a definite id and see some more examples of current glassworks  :)  And nice reply from them.

Hi scavo,  your glass birds are gorgeous.....and I am so pleased you showed them here and got an attribution.

Looking closely at Duncan Smith's bases,  I think some of them may well be Agate slices (coloured).
I like this combination as, like your marble base it is a natural crystal formation which for me, sits well with glass and crystal sculptures.

Lovely....do you have any others to show and share with us?  I would really love to see them.

No, I don't have any more. It would be great if other collectors could find this and post theirs though.

I have sent Glenda at Pier Glass Studio the link to this thread.

It would now be great if a Mod could move this to British and Irish glass.
