Title: Intersting Art Deco Glass made in France
Post by: frassinetti on November 27, 2005, 09:46:14 PM
Hello everyone, I am trying to find information on a wonderful French glass, I saw it in a flea market here in Buenos Aires, the glass a deep red bowel, with etched figures on the side, looking art deco, has huts and birds on it, maybe French Africa(?) anyway, what I need to find out is on the artist who made it, his names is on the piece, its signed, “Sanh” The last letter in his signature is really an inverted ”h”, would any one know him. I am sure it’s a valuable piece, but I don’t want to buy it till I am sure! Please feel free to email me any time. Thank you all for reading, and happy holidays, Bob Frassinetti.

Take a look......

I know it may be difficult, but is there a possibility of asking the stall holder if you can take a digital photo and then post it (see thread in Glass) to us here. You have many times the chance of getting and ID with a photo (one of the mark /signature as well would be even more helpful).

From your excellent website, I can see you will have no technical problems.

In fact, I'm not missing something here. Is the item withinin the link you give?

Hi Bob,
are you not searching too far afield, given the glass made by Rigolleau, and the people employed, some highly-skilled Belgian and Slovak designers and artisans?
Glass of the type you describe would have been well within their capabilities. Do you have any knowledge of the whereabouts of the pattern books? National Library/Archives in Buenos Aires???
Regards,
Marcus

Whoever the engraver, they do not appear to be a main-stream artist on glass here in France, and I can come up with only two similar references to the word: shoulder from Persian, or Sanh, used as a surname in Vietnam.... This could of course be an engraving on a French-made blank.
If you like the design, and it has a certain charm, buy it.....

Marcus
